All of what we teach follows the overarching philosophy of The Soma System - A Trifecta of optimum health. We run residential and online courses that teach Nutrition, Exercise & Bio-Optimization from scratch. We also take up Personal Consultations for people who have specific obstacles to overcome, and we run Employee Welfare Programs for Corporate entities.

Optimum health is a state of mind & body. We live in an entropic world, and in such an environment, the optimum state doesn't last indefinitely - there is work and upkeep to be done. The upkeep comes in the form of the Three Spheres of Health.

 

  • In brief, the Physical Sphere has everything to do with Movement, Musculoskeletal Strength, Cardio-vascular Endurance, Dynamic Balance & Range of Motion.

  • The Biological Sphere consists of optimizing Hormonal balance, Gut Micro-biome, Cellular Resilience & Nutrient balance.

  • Finally, the Mental Sphere which consists of developing a strong focus, consistency of habit, control over detrimental patterns, will power, balancing Neurotransmitter levels & creating an indefatigable mindset. 

 

Even if one Sphere is not strong enough, one experiences a disharmony in their overall health. Our overarching training philosophy - The Soma System - resides in the intersection of the three spheres.

The Soma System is our overarching syllabus. A layered curriculum that builds progressively over a strong base of foundational knowledge. This system is created in close adherence to modern scientific research while involving the wisdom & philosophy of the ancient arts.

Every lesson, from nutrition & physical fitness, to  building mental fortitude, is backed by years or even decades of research by modern science. In close harmony with the science is our natural history - the evolutionary path that we have taken all these millions of years which still govern our well-being and provides the much needed element of self actualization.

In our residential courses, the course material is tweaked to suit the needs & goals of the practitioner. The Soma System starts with a thorough analysis of an individual’s health history, lifestyle & genetic predispositions. Post the analysis, comes the practical applications of the Three Spheres of Health.

 

In our Online Courses, we lay out tools of the trade that people can learn and apply into their own circumstances. In our Online Courses for Corporates, we cater to the needs of the group and to the specific demands & health goals of the team.

PHYSICAL FITNESS

The various sciences & arts of the world have great powers in their own fields. Yoga has a stronghold on the realm of body-balance, flexibility & cardio-respiratory fitness. Strength training on the other hand shows a direct path to musculoskeletal integrity - a formidable impetus to activate the various growth pathways in the body. While Tabatha & Low Intensity Steady State Cardio  are the prime pillars of heart & brain health, Gymnastic training is the most straightforward way to expanding the range of motion of the joints.

From an evolutionary standpoint, our ancestors needed a mix of endurance, strength, & range of motion to thrive in their environment. And this is what we believe in, at Somarasa. Just strength isn't enough all by itself, endurance & flexibility - the ability to adapt to situations quickly - is fundamental to the physicality of a human. At Somarasa, the physical training comprises of strengthening the primary pillars of being human; Strength, Flexibility & Endurance.

SCIENTIFIC NUTRITION

Likewise, in the area of diet, we primarily follow evolutionary history to build resilience while closely using modern science & research as an overall regulator. To a great extent, the Evolutionary Approach is sufficient by itself, but there are elements lacking that modern science thankfully makes up for. However, following modern medicine to its fullest extent isn't a wise choice either as a great part of it is curative & symptomatic-medicine in nature, not preventive as we'd want it to be. What we need is a balanced mix of the two; the long term Evolutionary Approach present in the daily life, with the microscopic precision & course correction of modern medicine; this is exactly what is in the Soma System.

MENTAL FORTITUDE

Finally, as part of the Soma System, comes the Operating System. If we use the analogy of a computer; the Soma System focuses first on building a hardware, a foundational physicality capable of taking a lifetime of adversity on the various environments of this planet. And this body is nurtured with foods most suited to grow & heal as required. With the hardware foundation set strong, next comes time to upgrade the software - the Central Nervous System - through the Operating System of Stoic Practices, Mindfulness Meditation, and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP). Stoicism is an ancient Greek philosophy that instills the virtues of forbearance, mental fortitude, calmness & composure. Mindfulness Meditation is a direct path to improving focus and sustained attention, while NLP is a reprogramming of the default network of the brain - removal of compulsive behaviors, addictions to certain types of foods, or negative habits, or even faulty internal dialogue. A sound mind governing a sound body - this is the state of being that is constantly being reached for.

Even though there is a set curriculum that applies to every human being, the approach is different for people at different stages in life.  The first step is to understand the challenges of individuals or groups and precisely ascertain the starting slate. Then, a program is designed with appropriate ascension steps.

In our residential courses, we first bring in the governing principles that drive us all the same. We call these the First Principles. Following that comes the individualization of curriculum to suit the needs of the practitioner and their specific circumstance - this is a feature exclusive to residential courses.
